Our Accomplishments
Thank you for all your support over the years
Dear Neighbors,
I would first like to thank you for allowing me to serve as your Second Ward
Councilman over the last 18 years.
It
is truly an honor. Working as a
team with a shared vision for a Belleville in which we can be proud, we have and will continue to enhance the quality of life in our
community. SAdly our
After over 30 years the old
Walter Kidde Property warehousing project
has started.
We have recently added some additional recreational and cultural programs to our
Recreation Department offerings to meet the changing needs of our community.
Belleville
Housing for Seniors Phase 1 was completed in 2016.
This is age restricted 55 and older moderate income housing.
Phase 2 began in 2020
but completion was delayed because of COVID. Please contact the Managers office at 973-450-3322 for more
information.
After years of neglect, the old
"SOHO" Hospital building on the
corner of Belleville and Franklin Avenues is being saved and renovated. This
building is a beautiful example of the Art Deco Period of the 1930s. For the
first time in a long time, it is returning tax dollars back to Belleville.
Belleville Shoprite is open for business across from the
brand new Motorcycle
Mall. We have 2 new Walgreens on
Washington Avenue as well as a WAWA and Starbucks (coming soon) on Franklin
Avenue. These are great examples of Belleville's Business Renaissance. We are
working diligently to bring more jobs and tax revenue into our Township. My
Team's goal is to promote "Smart Development" with more commercial development
in an effort to lessen the tax burden on the individual residential tax payer
while minimizing the impact on our schools and
township infrastructure. Our overall goal will be rational, reasonable and
responsible development.
In an effort to ensure the safety and security of our residents, The
Council approved and completed a
new lighting program on Washington
Avenue in 2016. This has made the "Avenue" a safer more inviting environment for
shoppers, pedestrians, and drivers. If you have a chance, take a ride down
the "Avenue" and see for yourself. There are new brighter street lights as well
as pedestrian lights for the sidewalk. They are not only designed to be more effective and efficient
but they look much nicer than the old aluminum poles. We are currently working
with the State on a complete renovation of Washington Avenue roadway.
We have also approved new equipment for both the Police and Fire Department to
help make them more effective and efficient.
Thank you for all your help and support.
I will
continue to demand better cost controls from our municipal management in an
effort to defend against higher taxes while maintaining essential services.
If you have any questions, please email me at
info@steverovell.org.
Please help me continue our fight
to bring the Pride back to Belleville.
Very truly yours,
Steven J. Rovell
2nd
Ward Councilman
WELCOME
to BELLEVILLE!
Belleville is a great place in which to live. It is 20 Minutes from New York City, 40 minutes
from the Jersey Shore (Beach) and 60 minutes from
the Delaware Water Gap. It has a rich history including a part in the
Revolutionary War, the Industrial Revolution, the Civil War, World War I and II as well as part of Rock and Roll
history. The Four Seasons, Connie Francis and My Chemical Romance have called
Belleville home. It has one of the most
beautiful Cherry Blossom displays in the world.
We need
our Township employees to realize that government is a customer service
business.
Our current Council has the Experience, Ethics, and Education to navigate our community
through these challenging times. We have a proven track record of working together to serve the best interest of the community.
I am not a
politician. I am however a public servant. I am not controlled by any
Political Boss, Machine or Political Party.
I believe my first responsibility is to the people of Belleville. The Council serves and represents the community.
